Is a Home Theatre Better For Gaming or Movies

Home theaters are exceptional appliances. If you are someone who just loves to get that cinematic feel while watching movies, or you wish to immerse yourself in your favorite video game, a home theater can really benefit you. Sound is an essential part of your experience, be it while watching a movie, or playing games. Either way, a good sound system would only prove to enhance your experience by quite the margin.

If you are wondering what it would be better for – movies or games, the thing is, a home theater will benefit you no matter what. It does prove better to have that surround sound for your movie nights as well as while playing games. If you are wondering for what purpose it will be better, I would say a home theater is much better for movies. And the reason for that is because playing games does not have you rely on a lot of surround sound, unless you are playing multiplayer. And if you are playing multiplayer, the better option is to use headphones instead of speakers. So, a home theater is best used for making your movie nights that much more interesting.

So, once you have understood what and how exactly to use a home theater, the problem arises when you have to make that purchase. Buying anything can be quite the daunting task and experience, and even more so when it comes to technology. Since there are so many products out in the market, most of us do get confused as to which one to purchase exactly.

You would have to weigh which kind you want, the price, the size of the product, and so much more honestly. And everything matters. That is what makes the entire purchase cycle that much more difficult. And since home theaters are no tiny portable speakers, you need to put extra effort into buying the right one. They can be expensive and if you make the right decision, they can last you years on end.

If you do not have any idea about how to go about purchasing the right home theater, we might be able to help. For movies, you would need a surround sound system. Essentially a good home theater system with multiple channels. A good 7.1 home theater system might prove the best for a good movie setup. For gaming, a simple 3.1, or even a 2.1 might work just fine.

So, if you are out buying the perfect home theater system for your gaming purposes, or your movie nights, here are the few things that you might want to consider before sinking your money into one.

What to look for in a home theater system?

Now, most people think that buying any kind of speaker is good enough practice to go ahead and buy a home theater system. However, the thing is, home theater systems are exceptionally different from generic speakers. Yes, their specifications might all have the same connotation, but what to consider totally changes when you are trying to buy a home theater system.

  1. Size – The primary thing to look at while buying a home theater is its size. Most people tend to leave it out thinking it is just a speaker unit, but the thing is, size does matter when it comes to the home theater system. Since they are usually big and bulky, you would need to check its size against the space you have available. If you have a small room where you want to install the home theater system, buying a huge unit might just prove overpowering. Similarly, if you buy a simple 3.1 home theater for a huge room with a 52” screen, your experience would be rather undermined.
  2. Channels – So, this is something most speakers have in common. Every speaker unit comes with this specification listed on it. Essentially, it lists the number of speakers in a speaker unit. For example, a 5.1 speaker unit has 5 speakers and 1 subwoofer. Similarly, a 7.1 comes with 7 speaker units and a single subwoofer. The more speakers mean you can get that surround sound with ease.
  3. Brand and price – There are a lot of options available in the market. With so many brands to choose from and so many different products from each brand, the market is essentially flooded with products. How to choose the right one amongst them though? For an easier understanding, the top 10 home theaters include Sony, JBL, Philips, Yamaha, and Samsung. There are more brands that can fit in here, but these are essentially the top brands. Buying a branded product gives you the added advantage of higher durability and better design features. Yes, it gets more expensive if you buy a branded product, and yes, you can get a similar product at a much lower price if you just get a different brand. But good brands tend to use quality components which allow the speaker to last longer than products from cheaper brands might.
  4. Connectivity – Most home theaters can be easily connected with the use of a 3.5 mm jack. Additionally, you can also use a USB or Bluetooth to establish a connection as well. There are smart speakers in the market as well, that can be paired to a mobile phone and used much like Amazon Alexa or the Google Assistant.

Once you have this necessary information, you are essentially ready to get out there and get the best home theater system for your needs.
